This year the beautiful restaurant IJkgebouw has opened its doors. This building situated in a park next to Alkmaar city centre, is renovated and turned into a beautiful Vila with view over the Dutch waters.

The building is painted beautiful white and remains its beautiful old details from the outside. The interior is a combination of industrial rough and trendy, love it! There are many areas where you can sit. Outside in the front of the restaurant, you have a view over the water. In summer when it light until 22.00 pm it’s great to view the boats and city life passing by. You can also choose to sit in two areas in the restaurant or at the back of the restaurant, where you can dine in the beautiful conservatory in the back garden with lots of light. This part of the restaurant gives you the feeling that you sit outside in the parc.

The food is beautiful. We had the coquilles as a starter, Fish dish as the main course and the strawberry desert. We were recommended a dry white fresh wine. The combination of all the food served was very tasty and beautifully served, like a piece of art. One of the things I noticed was the very friendly staff. They were quick and took time to explain each dish we got served.

I wanted to pay a visit to the restaurant earlier, it’s only minutes walking from my home. But somehow everytime I was occupied. I am glad that I could pay a visit to this great place now. This restaurant on this location of the city centre gives such an uplift of the city centre of Alkmaar. Not only the beautiful Vila in the park is beautiful to see, it also great to have another place in town where they serve beautiful food. Alkmaar is getting more interesting day by day.
