Choose your circle and protect your peace

Some days you feel unstoppable. Other days, one small comment is enough to dim your light. Lately I keep coming back to the same answer to what makes the difference: the people around us.

One step at a time, until you take off

One step at a time, until you take off

Growth rarely happens in one big jump. It starts with a small step, then another, and one day you notice you’re flying. I know where I started: in a refugee family that didn’t have much, and the kid who was always picked last in gym class. Your past doesn’t decide where you end up. But you don’t have to do it alone, and who walks beside you really matters.

Choose your circle

You’ve probably had moments when someone made you feel small, and moments when a friend lifted you up at exactly the right time. Those experiences taught me to protect my energy. The right people believe in your potential, celebrate your wins and stay close when things get hard.

Happiness is better shared. Be that person for someone else. Kindness costs nothing, and you never know how much someone needs it today.

Lighter, freer and more peaceful

When someone treats you badly, it’s easy to take it personally. More often than not, it isn’t about you. Harsh words usually say more about the other person’s insecurities, or about a battle you know nothing about.

That doesn’t mean accepting bad behaviour. It means letting go of the disappointment faster, because you stop searching for what you did wrong. I once applied for a role in a team I had helped build years ago. Not even for the lead position. Still, I didn’t make it past round one. I smiled, wished them well, and moved on. Some doors close so better ones can open. 😉

Something I’ve only really learned in my forties: you don’t always have to fit in, and you don’t always have to be “on”. Recharging on your own is allowed. Being a bit of an outsider is allowed. That’s exactly what makes you, you.

You can’t control how others act, but you can always choose your response. Don’t let someone else’s bad day become yours. Keep your focus on what matters (your goals, your family, your peace) and take one small step every day. That’s how you grow into your best version.
